Lawson: “I started playing USA Basketball at 17, the same age as my players. Having first-hand knowledge of what they’re feeling, because I’ve lived it, helped a ton. I’ve been fortunate to play for great coaches. I spent four years under Pat Summitt, that’s an advanced degree in hoops! As a broadcaster and coach, you try to pass along your knowledge. When you’ve been in locker rooms before big games, dealt with the emotions of wins and losses, worked hours and hours on your game, you have the unique ability to really understand certain moments for the players you cover or in this specific instance, coach. So, I felt comfortable because I knew what to expect—all about preparation and anticipation.”
