Jason Whitlock’s career as a national sports journalist came full-circle last Sunday when the Indianapolis native was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (ISSA) Hall of Fame at the Valle Vista Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind. "It's a tremendous honor to be inducted into a Hall of Fame that includes my early mentor Bob Hammel and so many other great sports writers and broadcasters,†Whitlock said of his induction into the ISSA Hall of Fame. “I got my start at the Bloomington Herald Times in 1990 as a part-time preps writer. Bob Hammel and Andy Graham took an interest me, someone very raw journalistically, and prepared me for my first full-time job. Blame them for launching my career. I do." Whitlock, who fell in love with opinion-forming journalism while a youngster, is on the verge of launching ESPN’s upcoming site “The Undefeated,†focusing on the intersection of sports, race and urban culture.
