Longhorn Network launches this Friday, Aug. 26, and the network will welcome Lowell Galindo as its main anchor.
Galindo comes to Longhorn Network from ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, where he was the signature anchor since August 2007. Galindo primarily reported from ESPNU’s studios in Charlotte, N.C.
A San Antonio, Texas native, Galindo will be host for a variety of programming for the Longhorn Network.
Galindo talks to Front Row about making the move to Austin, his Texas background and what he expects Longhorn Network to become.
FR: What made you make the move from ESPNU to Longhorn Network?
Galindo: I made the move for a combination of reasons. I wanted a chance to cover the program I grew up cheering for and most importantly my wife and I wanted to raise our kids close to our families in San Antonio.
FR: Were you a University of Texas fan growing up?
Galindo: Diehard. I would work voodoo against opposing teams. If the karma in the room I was watching from wasn’t right I would kick people out. Texas won the first Big 12 Championship against Nebraska because I made my brother in law leave the room. Serious.
Galindo: I had a great opportunity to wear many hats and host many shows at ESPNU. I pride myself on my versatility because of that. I’m also used to the rigors of building a network from close to the ground up. (I came to ESPNU in Year 3 of existence.)
FR: What are you most looking forward to with joining Longhorn Network?
Galindo: I’m most excited to be part of a community. You get very out of touch when you spend so much time in studio. It’s nice to talk with coaches and go to practices and games. On top of everything I get to be part of the Texas community.
FR: What Longhorn Network show/programming idea are you most excited about?
Galindo: I can’t wait to host our gameday pregame and postgame shows from the stadium. The shows will be the most in depth coverage a fan can get. From what I’ve been told, I will also get to watch the game from the sidelines, which isn’t a big deal or anything.
FR: What are your predictions for the Texas football this season?
Galindo: I’m supposed to ask people that question!
